BeachPeople has a range of memberships from Sandbanks locals to city-stranded ocean sports spirits who just want to connect, especially in the seemingly endless UK winters. But our big drive is to stop the pollution by Wessex Water of the beaches from Christchurch down to Swanage (and especially Poole Harbour as that has decimated the local Shellfish industry). You don't need to join the club but you can donate if you want to put your shoulder to that effort.
BeachPeople is an ocean sports & fitness club based by the flat sandy beaches and clear warm waters of Sandbanks on the South Dorset coast, UK. Membership starts at just £10pa.
Surf, swim, sail, kite, dive or just beach camp & bbq - we try to cram as much as we can.
We began in 2016 as a fitness group on a social media platform but soon outgrew that and migrated to our own Club site a year later. In 2019 we organised around a hundred events including many many ohgoodgodsomany fin swims, SUP/canoe/kayak expeditions, surfing & beach BBQs as well as camping-surfing trips further afield and regular pub nights.
Every ocean sport has its own vibe and BeachPeople reflects that by being structured as a collection of groups - surfers, freedivers, kiteboarders you name it - all having their own space to arrange trips & events, post articles, chat and create discussion threads.
Since we are under two hours by train direct from London (a lot of us moved here from there) we offer two types of membership - Remote for all those stranded ocean spirits up in town and beyond, and Full.
The Club isn't for everyone tho - you will need show that you can get yourself out of trouble in the water. The general test we use for that is:
- Run two groynes (roughly 200m) in soft sand
- Swim back in chop
- Climb unassisted onto a rescue boat
If you can do that and you're experienced in one or more ocean sports and ideally have your own equipment (kayak, SUP, kiteboard etc.) then this may be the club for you.
All you gotta do is head to the Membership page and we'll take it from there!
Hope to see you soon in, on or under the water.
To The Beach!
