"New studies have found that great whites and tiger sharks have grown to “insane” sizes after gorging on prey in protected no-fishing zones, with some “mega sharks” now 20ft long.
A forthcoming National Geographic documentary shows some of the largest great whites ever recorded, found off the coast of Hawaii, where protections are in place to help the apex predators and their prey.
While female great whites are usually about 15ft to 16ft long, and males 11ft to 13ft, researchers observed 20ft females in US territorial waters. Hawaii became the first state in the US to ban shark fishing in January."

"The Great Belt is like a motorway for migrating birds, Albert says. A single eider duck can eat 6kg of mussels a day, and the migrating flocks can contain as many as 25,000 birds. While production was great in the first year, in the second year the eiders spotted the ropes and ate the whole harvest."

"Unhealthy coral communities sound less vibrant and also emit more high-frequency sounds, the researchers found. While healthy reefs give readings 0f 2-8 kilohertz, less diverse reefs tend to be above 12kHz, as they become overpopulated with macroalgae, which create bubbles of oxygen that float to the surface and pop, making a specific high-frequency sound."
A pleasingly informative article from the Guardian that for once isn't about 'the joys of wild swimming'.

Negligible emissions and cleaner water and a better marine habitat - win win win.

At one point the dolphins are seen floating just underneath the water's surface, apparently mesmerised by their own reflections."
